Community Service 2001
During
the grant period of September 1, 2001 to August 31, 2002,
project coordinator Sue Singer and co-therapists Anne
Keller and Cindy Le Roy provided access to massage
therapy for members of On Our Own and Associates, Inc.
On Our Own is a friendship group composed of 60 adults
with learning disabilities living in a variety of
supportive housing arrangements, most within a
four-block area in St. Paul, MN. Specifically, we
provided three hours per week of individual full body

Southampton Hospital has a Massage Therapy Department
located in the Dept. of Rehabilitation. We are staff of
9 therapists located in 3 locations. Southampton
Hospital is a small community hospital located on the
East End of Long Island NY. We began massaging patients
in 1995 both in and out-patient. Presently we massage

Massage Therapy in Childhood Cancer - Research
2000
In 1999, a group of health care providers from
the Integrative Medicine Program at Children's Hospitals
& Clinics in Minneapolis/St. Paul met to discuss ideas
for a research project that would both advance the
science of complementary and alternative therapies for
children, and focus on childhood cancer. Children
undergoing cancer therapy receive the best treatment
modern medicine has to offer, but must endure
side-effects such as pain, anxiety, fatigue, and nausea.
This is a stressful and anxious time. Parents must
juggle all the normal elements of family life with
clinic appointments, chemotherapy infusions, and

Langlade Memorial Hospital
Langlade Memorial Hospital (LMH), a small rural
health care facility located in Northern Wisconsin, is
using an Massage Therapy Foundation grant to provide
free massage therapy services to two very important
groups- individuals with cancer and elderly persons who
utilize the hospital’s Horizon Adult Day Care services.
LMH’s Center For Health and Well-Being, a department
that provides comprehensive holistic health care and

Bringing Massage to Rural Honduras
In 1998 Hurricane Mitch devastated the country
of Honduras in Central America, one of the 4 poorest
countries in the western hemisphere. It was the worst
hurricane in 200 years and thousands were killed and
thousands more people lost their homes and work places.
